Sustainability

Our Commitment to Sustainability

Since our founding in 1909, we have served as an intermediary in the short-term money market, striving to maintain and develop market functions by facilitating the efficient and effective flow of funds—"Connecting Capital." Under our fundamental management policy of "Connecting Funds, Connecting the Future," we remain committed to contributing to the stability and growth of these market functions. We believe this commitment is essential to ensuring our own long-term sustainability.

The short-term money market is comprised of a diverse range of participants from across the country, centered around financial institutions across Japan. In considering the maintenance and development of the market functions, we recognize the necessity of initiatives that revitalize the "local economies and communities" that serve as the very foundation for the market participants' activities.

Guided by this perspective, we are dedicated to supporting the realization of a sustainable and prosperous society. We are expanding our social contributions by collaborating with local governments’ efforts rooted in a deep understanding of regional challenges and by donating to organizations addressing the increasing threat of natural disasters.

Support for Regional Revitalization

Local governments across Japan are promoting regional revitalization projects based on "Regional Rejuvenation Plans" through the Corporate version of the Furusato Nozei (Hometown Tax Donation) system. We contribute to projects in all 47 prefectures* that focus on: (1) addressing population decline (e.g., childcare and settlement support), (2) environmental initiatives (e.g., decarbonization and nature conservation), and (3) supporting local economies.

*Note: In the case of Tokyo, eligible projects are selected from other municipalities, as the metropolitan government, special wards, and certain cities/towns are excluded from the system.

Support for Disaster Relief and Recovery

Natural disasters, such as earthquakes, storms, and floods, represent a significant threat to the sustainability of local economies and communities. While we have long provided support through donations to the Japanese Red Cross Society and other organizations following major disasters, natural catastrophes have become increasingly frequent and normalized in recent years due to climate change.

In light of these conditions, in addition to our relief efforts for individual disasters, we also contribute to the "Disaster Volunteer & NPO Support Fund" managed by the Central Community Chest of Japan (Red Feather). This donation specifically aims to support the volunteers and NPOs engaged in vital disaster relief and reconstruction activities.

In our daily business operations, we are committed to environmental protection by promoting the digitization of internal documents and forms to reduce paper consumption. Furthermore, looking toward our future, we strive to create a workplace where employees can work in good health and with peace of mind. Our initiatives include improving work-life balance, supporting professional growth through self-development programs, and strengthening our Business Continuity Planning (BCP) to ensure operations during disasters.

"Under our fundamental management policy, 'Connecting Funds, Connecting the Future,' we will continue to provide customer-centric financial services while supporting initiatives that contribute to the sustainable development of local economies and communities. By building a robust business foundation capable of withstanding future structural changes, we are committed to contributing to the resolution of social issues and creating a better future for all."
